Define the system interfaces before installation.

An equipment list does not show whether a system can be installed, powered, controlled, serviced, or tested. The integration record should identify each physical and functional interface, who is responsible for it, which source governs it, and how it will be checked.

Interface definition

Assign each interface, assumption, and verification step to an owner.

For each interface, record both sides, the governing source, required capacity or behavior, responsible party, installation constraint, and verification method. Use that record to coordinate supplier actions, installation, and test.

Power and distribution

Build the load list around operating modes, starting and transient demands, source capacity, distribution, protection, conversion, charging, and emergency behavior. Record cable routes, installation access, grounding or bonding inputs, and the checks needed before energization.

Propulsion and controls

Map the propulsion, steering, controls, fuel, cooling, exhaust, displays, alarms, and machinery-space interfaces. Identify supplier boundaries, service access, failure responses, and the installation or repower sequence before equipment is committed.

Communications and data

Define the connections among radios, navigation equipment, sensors, networks, antennas, displays, recording, and external links. Include cable pathways, power quality, data ownership, network boundaries, equipment location, and the operator workflow that will be tested.

Auxiliary and payload systems

Define the interfaces for pumps, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, deck machinery, payloads, removable equipment, enclosures, foundations, and supporting utilities. Show how each item is installed, operated, isolated, serviced, removed, and checked.

Installation and commissioning

Convert the interface record into installation information, supplier actions, pre-energization checks, commissioning steps, functional tests, fault and alarm checks, discrepancy closure, and as-built updates.

Review basis

Apply requirements at the interfaces they govern

Identify the owner, OEM, contract, ABYC, ISO, NMEA, class, flag, cybersecurity, and regulatory criteria that apply to each system. For each interface, record the applicable requirement, evidence, reviewer, and the test or review that will confirm the requirement has been met. Regulated calculations, structural substantiation, certification, and authority acceptance remain with the qualified or authorized party responsible for them.
